This identity was developed during my time at factor[e] design initiative (now Parallel) for Gates of Kent, a planned residential community by Reid’s Heritage Homes located in Meaford, Ontario. The brief called for a brand that would appeal to active lifestyle retirees seeking a vibrant, close-knit environment near the shores of Georgian Bay. My design exploration included several directions, one of which featured a stylized lighthouse — intended to resonate with the marina culture of the area and the leisurely nautical lifestyle that prospective residents could enjoy. This version emphasized heritage and local character, tying the brand to Meaford’s recognizable shoreline landmarks.

Ultimately, the client selected a cleaner, more modern interpretation of the brand, featuring a rolling horizon line and sun motif, which suggested peacefulness, openness, and natural beauty. The approved logo, shown in reverse on a light blue field, conveyed serenity and balance while maintaining a distinct visual signature. Gates of Kent has since sold out, a testament to the strength of the visual identity in supporting the community’s positioning and sales success. The brand delivered exactly what it promised: a sense of place and lifestyle that resonated with its audience from the very first impression.
