Creating the logo for Dragon of Legends was a deeply intentional process, blending mythology, symbolism, and bold visual storytelling to reflect the spirit of the game. As the Creative Director at Thrive Games, I led the branding and design efforts to ensure the identity resonated with both the game’s aesthetic and its narrative roots. Dragon of Legends, which is currently available on Steam Early Access, is a 2D action RPG inspired by Norse and Celtic mythology — so we knew from the outset that the logo had to reflect that heritage while remaining modern and impactful in a crowded indie market.

The typeface we chose, Connemara Bold Pro, was selected specifically for its historical connotations. Its rugged, serifed letterforms echo stone carving and ancient calligraphy, making it an ideal fit for a world shaped by myth and legend. The font visually reinforces the game’s themes while remaining readable and distinct across different platforms, from digital storefronts to in-game menus.
Special care was given to the linework in the dragon illustration. Every curve and angle was meticulously refined to strike a balance between ferocity and elegance. The clean, high-contrast strokes ensure clarity at any scale, while the subtle asymmetry in the lines adds a handcrafted feel. This attention to detail allowed the logo to maintain a bold silhouette while still conveying nuance and artistry — an important balance for a title that merges pixel-art visuals with rich lore.

The centerpiece of the logo — the dragon — was designed to symbolize Jörmungandr, the mythical World Serpent from Norse legend. We incorporated a circular motif into the body of the dragon to allude to Jörmungandr encircling the earth, an image that has powerful symbolic weight in mythological tradition. This circular form also serves as a strong visual anchor, giving the logo a sense of cohesion and timelessness.
