CASTLE PROJECT IDENTITY

The CASTLE logo was developed as the central visual identity for a public health initiative aimed at increasing early cancer screening access in low-income communities. The acronym CASTLE stands for Creating Access to Screening and Training in the Living Environment, a name that emphasizes both community reach and medical support within people’s everyday surroundings. The logo needed to convey safety, strength, accessibility, and dignity — without evoking clinical coldness.

The central mark — a stylized castle structure — symbolizes protection and empowerment. Its strong, grounded base visually anchors the concept of “living environment,” while the soft curves of the lower ribbon-like elements suggest openness, care, and support. These ribbon forms intentionally echo the widely recognized cancer awareness ribbons, subtly reinforcing the screening mission across various cancer types. The minimal, monoweight linework gives the logo a modern and approachable quality, suitable for both community-facing and clinical contexts.

Color plays a key role in the identity system:

  • Yellow is the primary color used in the main CASTLE identity. It was chosen for its warmth, optimism, and inclusiveness—representing all early screening initiatives under the CASTLE umbrella.
  • Pink was developed specifically for materials focused on breast cancer screening, reflecting a widely adopted and emotionally resonant color in public health campaigns.
  • Blue represents colorectal cancer screening, bringing a sense of calm and trust, and aligning with national awareness color schemes.
  • Teal identifies materials related to ovarian cancer, evoking clarity and hope while distinguishing this subset from the others.

This flexible identity system allows the CASTLE brand to unify its overall mission while clearly differentiating focus areas through color. The end result is a visual identity that is clean, purposeful, and empathetic — supporting the project’s vital work in empowering vulnerable populations through early detection and education.
